Almost every viewer is indelibly impressed by Table Amsterdam. Reason is the surprising combination of wood and translucent bioresin, whereby the graphic is a constructive part of the design. In this example you see the map of the Amsterdam Red Light District, but principally every graphic form (logo!) is possible. When LED’s are applied even luminous.
The idea for bioresin resulted from the question: how do you make sheet material more interesting? In the first versions small strips of epoxy resin were combined with wooden slats. However there was a problem: epoxy is not ecologically friendly.
The solution was found in Germany with the inventor and manufacturer of a resin on a biological base: Bioresin. A resin from non-toxic sunflower oil whereby no toxic material is given off with processing and recycling.
The next challenge was: how to connect the bioresin with the wood, in a way the final result meets all strength requirements? After may experiments in close collaboration with the manufacturer, both a new production process and a new resin were developed. The tables are manufactured to measure with different graphics and wood/colour combinations.
