The X-Ray has been designed in the context of a biomimicry concept study for new materials. Biomimicry is the science that nature has developed perfect solutions for many design problems already millions of years ago. For example, the organic bone structures, where it is about combining minimal weight with maximal mechanical qualities, belong to the most efficient existing structures.
With the X-Ray this has been translated into practice by applying an integral frame of foamed synthetic material with a variable density. This means that the material has a high density on spots where great strength is required and a low density on spots where it is not required. For example, a significant weight reduction is achieved in comparison with conventionally built scooters. Besides the production of the design is cheaper because it contains relatively few parts.
